“Lying in Bed, Just before Dawn”

Lying in bed, just before dawn,

waiting for sleep to come,

the house is still

except for your rhythmic breathing

and my exhausted body.

The warmth of your slumber offers rest,

the weight of your arm an anchor

for the weight of my soul to cling to,

freeing my body to drift.
